Swim/Dive earns 2 new state cuts at KC Classic Invite

Freshman Josiah Thomson and the 200 Medley Relay team of Cogan Davis, Tim Schweizer, Shaun Van Hoesen, and Sam Aubuchon punched their ticket to the MSHSAA State Championships, over the weekend.  Thomson scored 357.60 on 11 dives to qualify for state while the Medley Relay swam a season best of 1:44.78 to punch their ticket to the St. Louis Rec Plex in November.  Overall as a team, the Wildcats Swim/Dive earned 4th place (out of 19 teams) after earning best times across the board.

The meet began with the diving competition, where the young Wildcats showed loads of improvement and potential.  Freshman duo Josiah Thomson and Ethan Gutierrez both finished in the top 7 to give the Wildcats valuable points.  Alex Harkness added 9th place points as the three divers impressed throughout the competition.  Thomson qualified for state while Gutierrez and Harkness both showed signs of being able to qualify as the season continues.

Senior Captain Shaun Van Hoesen was the team’s lone “two-race” finalist.  Van Hoesen earned 6th place in both the 200 IM and 100 Breaststroke.  Sophomore Cogan Davis broke the 1:00 mark in the 100 Backstroke to earn 7th with a :59.85.  Sophomore Tim Schweizer swam a season best (1:03.25) in the 100 Breaststroke to earn 4th place.

Overall, 12 Wildcats earned second swims as the Swim/Dive Team finished with over 80% best times on the weekend.

The Swim/Dive Wildcats finish their regular season at Centennial Pool on Tuesday, October 10th at Senior Night.
